Following the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, after last January’s extraordinary performance with Metallica at the Grammy’s, and after several recent concert with large audiences cramming open spaces such as Piazza Duomo in Milan and the gardens of the Schönbrunn castle in Vienna, Chinese pianist Lang Lang is once again starring at a great popular event, during the most awaited sport championship of 2014: Brazil’s soccer World Cup. On July 11 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro – two days prior the Cup’s finals – piano world star will be performing together with famous Spanish tenor Plàcido Domingo and Puerto Rican soprano Ana Marìa Martìnez, accompanied by the Orquesta Sinfónica Brasileira led by North American conductor Eugene Kohn.

They will be performing a selection from the classical and operatic repertoire, touching on the popular.

Lang Lang has recently been nominated Messenger of Peace by the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon. His concerts see him perform with such artists as Daniel Barenboim, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt with whom he has just finished recording an album dedicated to Mozart. But alongside his concert career, Lang Lang puts forth an intense educational effort, focusing on music teaching around the world, thanks also to the International Foundation that bears his name.
