Lang Lang Receives an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from NYU

 

New York University's 183rd Commencement was simultaneously webcast on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM (EDT) for those who were unable to attend the ceremony at Yankee Stadium.

President John Sexton and Board of Trustees Chairman Martin Lipton presided over the event, which presented honorary degrees to Sherrilyn Ifill, NAACP Legal Defense Fund leader and NYU Law alum; Lang Lang, internationally renowned pianist who has played with the world's leading orchestras; Peter D. Lax, Abel Prize-winning mathematician, professor emeritus at NYU's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and NYU alumnus; Graça Simbine Machel, political leader, humanitarian, and advocate on behalf of women and children in Africa and throughout the world; and Jan Tomas Vilcek, physician, biomedical researcher, inventor of Remicade, and philanthropist.
