Lang Lang

Lang Lang tops this week's Specialist Classical Chart

At the top of this week’s Specialist Classical Chart is Lang Lang with his homage to Liszt, 'My Piano Hero', hailed by Gramophone's Bryce Morrison as evidence of 'a major talent already moving in new and enlightening directions'. He pushes last week's leader - Nicola Benedetti with her album of Italian Baroque music, ‘Italia’ - to number 2.

Compiled from UK CD and download sales, the Specialist Classical Chart offers an insight into how the discerning record-buying public’s views compare to those of our critics. Older albums are not included, nor are recordings which are not classical music as Gramophone readers might recognise it.

The champion of the chart for much of this year, and the winner of Gramophone’s Specialist Classical Chart award, is Montenegrin guitarist Miloš Karadaglić. Although he has finally been knocked from the top spot, he is still a familiar chart presence, and appears in this week's edition at number 3.

New entries this week include Beethoven's complete symphonies from the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly and Accademia Bizantina's 'Sinfonia', an exploration of instrumental music in Bach's cantatas.
