LANG LANG TO GIVE OUTDOOR CONCERTS IN THE GARDENS OF VERSAILLES IN 2016 AND 2017

November 20, 2015 - Today, at a press conference at the Appartements Vergennes at Versailles, pianist Lang Lang was named the first-ever Ambassador to the Château de Versailles. The honorary title was presented by Catherine Pégard, the President of Versailles.

Lang Lang's role as Ambassador is intended to bring awareness to the need for ongoing preservation and restoration of the Château de Versailles.  He will give an open-air concert in the gardens on July 5th, 2016, at Salle de Bal, and will return to perform in 2017 as part of the Versailles Festival.  Lang Lang performed at Versailles for the first time in 2012, at the Chapel Royal, and returned to perform in the Royal Opera in May 2015. In June 2015, Lang Lang became the first artist to perform in the Hall of Mirrors, within the Palace — the performance was filmed and the DVD, Lang Lang Live in Versailles, will be released by Sony Classical in December.

"I fell in love with the Château de Versailles — for it’s splendor, for it’s place in the history of France, and for it’s incredible gardens, all of which must be preserved for future generations to visit and enjoy,” said Lang Lang.  "I am honored to be named the first Ambassador to the Château de Versailles, and to bring attention, through concerts and other programs, to the need for ongoing restoration, care and preservation.  I am very grateful to have been welcomed so warmly to Paris, and to France, where I now spend a good deal of time, and I want to do all that I can to support this most important of French monuments.”
